The University hospital brining “state of the Art” health care to Sri Lanka, The Faculty of  Medicine of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University will achieve the Health provides an opportunity form the University Hospital, (KDU) to  community and come together for one day to focus on actions, that can improve the health of all our people.


It was planned with 704 bed University Hospital, KDU scheduled to complete constriction in 2015,this state of the art 200 million dollar tertiary care facility is not only intended to be the teaching hospital of the faculty of the medicine, KDU but also centre of medical and research excellence for the whole country, delivering cutting edge healthcare services while driving innovation through its research arm. UH-KDU situated facing Colombo – Rathnapura main road, this hospital is to be situated in a quiet place with natural tranquility. The hospital will provide tertiary care facilities to the general public and service personnel while training both undergraduate and post graduate military medical students and allied health staff from Sri Lanka and foreign countries. The hospital will also engage in high quality research.


Hospital which was designed according to exacting international standards by specialist hospital planners from Singapore, the hospital is being built by the constriction arm of poly-technologies group of China. The hospital will be modelled on a unique concept of healthcare delivery system in Sri Lanka. Where it will be provide all the services expected from General hospitals to public of the country, and also provide all the aspect of facilities in private hospitals in city of Colombo Sri Lanka. It will be one of the standard Hospital in south Asian region and beyond.


It is projected that the Hospital will accommodate 50 private room for patients and over 100 channelling rooms which can accessible to private patients along with the latest in terms of diagnostic and surgical interventional facilities. The Hospital also serve as the tertiary referral center for the Tri-Forces of Sri Lanka.


Hospital will deliver services in all the major specialties including General Medicine, Surgery, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Psychiatry, Cardiology and Cardiac surgery, Urology, Neurology, Dermatology, Plastic Surgery, Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) Surgery, Ophthalmic Surgery, Radiology and OMF Surgery. The Hospital will also have separate unit for Oncology and offer the full range of cancer treatment services. The Hospital will have one of the largest operation theatre complexes in the country with include 20 ultramodern modular operation theatres among 2 operation theatre are dedicated to Accident, Emergency and casualty Department. UH-KDU is the one of the highlights will be Sri Lankan’s first Hybrid theatre allowing for combined open Cardiac, Neuro and Vascular surgical and interventional Radiological procedures. In additional have cardiac catheterization laboratories for the performance of advanced cardiac interventional procedures. Endoscopic unit with modern facilities and 3 tesla MRI scanner, 256 slicer CT scanner, PET scanner with interventional radiology procedures in Radiology department.
